Our
History
The
ministry of this local church began as a small group
bible study in a National City dental office. Pastor
Melito led the Bible study in May 1995 with 7 attendees.
The following year in March 1996, Pastor Medel Barrera
(eldest brother of Pastor Melito) of our mother church,
was given an opportunity to visit San Diego. He saw
the need for establishing local churches here. Then
in September 1997, Pastor Medel returned to San Diego
and started a regular Sunday evening worship service
at the residence of Pastor Melito and Sis. Carla in
south San Diego. In the early part of 1999, the Lord
placed a burden in Pastor Melito’s heart. The
small group of attendees began to pray for a place of
worship. It was focused on the growing community of
Eastlake, because of its prospective 22,000 homes. The
Lord gave us a place, and on March 21, 1999, the Berean
Bible Baptist Mission held its very first worship service
at Olympic View Elementary School. Pastor Melito was
called to be the Pastor and was commissioned by the
mother church in November 1999. The name “Berean”
was acquired from our mother church, it was based on
Acts 17:10-11.
The Lord has been good to us;
we took on our first 4 missionaries in August 1999,
and now we are supporting a total of twenty three (23)
missionary families worldwide, with a Faith Promise
Goal of $ 25,000 this year. The Lord also provided us
with an office area located just a mile from the school
auditorium and a twenty one passenger bus. Three years
have passed and we have been blessed with an average
attendance of 70 every Sunday. Last year, there were
50 professions of faith and 12 baptisms.
We are now getting ready for
our CHURCH ORGANIZATION Day on March 17, 2002; please
pray for us, as we CARRY the TORCH that will be passed
on by our Mother Church - Berean Bible Baptist Church
in Molino, Bacoor, Philippines. Praises, honor, and
GLORY to GOD!
We are so thankful for God’s
faithfulness to all of us. He deserves all our praises,
honor and glory for giving us the opportunity to accomplish
His tasks.
