Only One Day To Live
Psalms 84:10 says, “For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

What would you do if you knew that you only have 24 hours to live? How would you spend that time? David was probably considering that thought in our verse. He concluded that a day of serving God in His house “is better than a thousand” doing other things! He would rather be a “doorkeeper” in God’s house than to enjoy the wealth and luxury of “wickedness.” Sadly, most people today are setting their affections on worldly things rather than “on things above” (Col 3:2); by laying up their “treasures upon earth” (Mt 6:19).
They don’t realize that one day everything we see “shall be burned up” (2 Pet 3:10)! As bible-believing Christians, we must understand that our number one priority in life is to obey the Lord’s command to continually seek “first the kingdom of God” (Mt 6:33). We neither have to think about it nor even discuss it. When we trusted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour (Eph 2:8), “the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal” (1 Cor 12:7). Each of us have been given a special place of ministry as part of “one body in Christ” (Rom 12:5).
And the greatest privileges of showing our love for Him (Mt 22:37), is to be faithful to the task that He has called us! Remember, we only have one life to live (Heb 9:27). But if we only have one day to live, we’d rather be found in our place of service (1 Cor 7:17); faithfully doing what God has called us to do (1 Cor 4:2)! David’s desire to be a doorkeeper is not a menial task. Because it is more honorable to bear the burdens of opening the door of God’s house than to reign among the godless and “to enjoy the pleasures of sin” (Heb 11:25). May the Lord find us serving and surrendered to His will every single day! God bless you!
