Rebuilding The Walls Of Our Own Spirit
Nehemiah 1:3 says, “And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also is broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire.”

After the Babylonian invasion, the walls of Jerusalem are “broken down.” Nehemiah was burdened to pray (v. 11), and ask God to help him rebuild it! Many today have no rule over their own spirit; their lives are “like a city that is broken down, and without walls” (Prov 25:28). They are allowing “the devil” (1 Pet 5:8), to get in and out of their lives, and making it a total wreck – they don’t have God’s hedge of protection (Job 1:10). Maybe you are in that situation today, when you don’t have the power to rise up (Eze 7:17).
But you know the importance of standing up and rebuilding your walls (Prov 24:16). Because when our walls have fallen down, we become discouraged and dismayed (Ps 42:11). We often have a tendency to just walk out and quit (Jn 6:66). But like Nehemiah, we must humbly come to God (Mt 11:28), and ask for His help in rebuilding it. Many today don’t realize that “sin” (Rom 5:12), and “the works of the flesh” (Gal 5:19), are the major contributors to most of the mess that happens in their lives!
They are often convinced that other people are to blame for their unwanted circumstances. If that is true, then they have to wait for them to fix it. But they know in their hearts (Ps 10:3), that will never happen. Because our iniquities are truly responsible for breaking it down and by God’s grace (Jms 4:10), He alone can help us to rebuild it. There’s usually a lot of “rubbish” (Neh 4:10), or baggage in our lives. Much of our troubled past has to do with other people. We can’t let them break down our walls. We must use them to help us grow stronger (Neh 4:2). Through constant prayer and bible study, God can help us rebuild our walls and fortify our lives! God bless you!
