Be Not Afraid Of Their Faces
Jeremiah 1:8 says, “Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.”

God ordained Jeremiah to be “a prophet unto the nations” (v. 5). Even though his audience won’t like his message and they shall fight against him (v. 10), he will speak what God had commanded him (v. 17); to all the kings, princes, priests, and “the people of the land” (v. 18), and they will not prevail! Because God will be there (v. 19), to “deliver” him. But he must not be “afraid of their faces.” This passage gives us a lesson about the fear of dealing with people in person. Many today would send text, e-mail messages, or use their social media; but they are afraid to speak with them “face to face” (2 Jn 1:12). Jeremiah made excuses to God by saying he “cannot speak” (v. 6a), because he was afraid.
He was like Moses who told God that he was “not eloquent” (Ex 4:10). All they needed was courage to say exactly what God would tell them to say and when to say it! Sadly, most people are afraid to confront someone about a concern (Mt 18:15). They give themselves enough excuses to avoid it, so they don’t have to deal with their own fear (Gal 6:1). Jeremiah said that he was “a child” (v. 6b). Most folks who are afraid often exaggerates the truth to favor themselves. But then, it becomes a lie (Jms 3:14)!
They would rather talk to others who have no idea about the actual situation (Prov 11:13); creating potential conflicts and strife between friends and families (Prov 16:28). They would talk behind their backs or post it on their social media. These are all signs of cowardice (Prov 29:25)! You need to “debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself” (Prov 25:9); and leave everyone else out of it. But you must remain calm during the confrontation (Prov 15:1); and don’t allow your emotions take over by getting angry (Eph 4:26). Be not afraid. Do your best by standing upon God’s words and telling the plain truth! God bless you!
