Diligently Search For The Truth
Deuteronomy 19:18 says, “And the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and hath testified falsely against his brother;”

The laws that Moses repeats and emphasizes in this chapter concerns man’s devotion toward God and their duties of righteousness in their relationship to others (v. 14-21). When there were issues between two parties, the judges “shall make diligent inquisition” or inquiry regarding the facts that were presented; whether they are true or false! We should always be careful when we hear people make statements of facts, upon which we are called to act upon. We must “search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain” (Deut 13:14). In other words, we must be 100 percent certain that the information is sure!
Remember, there is a difference between facts and truth. For example, if you are presented with a picture of a stranger carrying a box away from a house, it is a fact and you might assume that he is stealing. Further inquiry reveals the truth that he was actually a delivery driver who forgot to wear his vest and is also returning to his truck because he grabbed the wrong box. If you repeat your initial assumption as fact, then you are a false witness (Ex 23:1)! There are always two sides of the story (Prov 18:13).
Often the person presenting “his own cause seemeth just” (Prov 18:17), until a true witness reveals the truth! We can avoid gossips and talebearers (Prov 20:19), by always being diligent in searching for the truth (Jn 5:39), before we make any conclusions. When Asaph questioned God for His apparent lack of concern (Ps 77:2), his “spirit made diligent search” (Ps 77:6), into His mighty acts; and he was encouraged to trust Him. If we ever find ourselves doubting whether God is hearing our prayers during times of troubles, then we must simply remember the truth of our Savior Jesus Christ’s great love for us (Rom 5:8)! We will be encouraged (1 Sam 30:6), when we realize what He has done and for others in similar situations! God bless you!
