God Will Provide
Judges 15:18 says, “And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?”

The “Spirit of the Lord” (Jgs 14:6), gifted Samson with an extraordinary strength. But he was weak spiritually; living most of his life in the power of the flesh! In our passage, Samson just killed 1000 Philistines (v. 15), to avenge the death of his wife and father-in-law (v. 6). After a victorious battle, “he was sore athirst,” and feared that he was going to die. In all his great strength, he was unable to help himself with the most basic necessity of life – water! The Lord allowed Samson to experience this utmost inability, so He can teach the basic truth of total dependence upon Him. We must also remember that our God “shall supply all” our needs (Php 4:19).
But without Jesus, we “can do nothing” (Jn 15:5)! Often, we seem to act and think that we know it all (1 Cor 10:12), and we can do it all (Ps 73:26). However, God alone “giveth strength and power unto His people” (Ps 68:35). He gives us the air we breathe (Job 33:4), the food we eat (Ps 37:25), the water we drink (Isa 49:10), and the clothes we wear (1 Tim 6:8). When we forget the truth that our daily sustenance comes from God (Ps 34:10), then He would work in our lives to get our attention (Jms 1:3), so we can realize how much we need Him!
During Samson’s moment of desperation, he finally “called on the Lord” and gave Him glory for the “great deliverance.” This is in sharp contrast with verse 16, when he gave all the credit to himself. We should never come before the Lord with a “haughty spirit” (Prov 16:18); but with humility and meekness “as little children” (Mt 18:3). We don’t come demanding, but with absolute faith (Lk 17:6); believing that our God shall provide (Gen 22:14), “according to His will” (1 Jn 5:14)! God bless you!
