Guard Your Heart With What You Hear

Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

Protecting our hearts is like the way we protect our homes and properties. We are to be vigilant in guarding and strengthening our hearts (Eze 38:7). Because “a good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things” (Mt 12:35). Since we are saved by God’s grace “through faith” (Eph 2:8), in our Lord Jesus. And “faith cometh by hearing” (Rom 10:17), God’s word; we are to guard everything that we hear by giving attendance to God’s words (v. 20). They are essential for keeping our hearts in tune with His will for our lives (Rom 12:2). When we trust Him with all our heart (Prov 3:5), and seek His guidance (Ps 22:26), we shall clearly see the pathway that leads to a closer fellowship with Him and fulfill His divine purpose for us (Eph 5:17)!

Being in harmony with the Lord also provides us with “a merry heart” (Prov 15:13). We must be spiritually nourished daily with His word (Mt 4:4), to guard against sin (Ps 119:11)! Instead of listening to some worldly music (Ex 32:17), or some progressive talk radio, we can listen to God’s word even while driving! Just download a free King James Bible app narrated by Alexander Scourby. You can also download the free KNVBC Christian radio app that is based in Santa Clara, CA – it provides both godly and uplifting music with some good preaching and teaching programs 24/7 (Col 3:16).

There are many doctrinally sound preaching broadcasts via the Internet, if you are unable to attend church (Heb 10:25). There’s really no excuse for not listening to God’s word today. You must remove anything that could potentially harm your heart. If you’re not sure about some preaching message that you are listening to, then consult with your pastor for some godly counsel (Prov 24:6). Bad instruction (Prov 19:27), and false doctrine (2 Pet 2:1), can give you a bad heart. Filter out the wrong things (Heb 5:14), and keep only the right things into your heart! God bless you!
