Jesus Abolished Death

2 Timothy 1:10 says, “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:”

Our Lord Jesus “abolished death” when He has “risen from the dead” (Mt 28:7). To abolish means to completely do away with or to end the effect of. Jesus ended the effect or “the sting of death” (1 Cor 15:56), which came with sin when it entered into the world (Rom 5:12). He “brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” – He died a cruel and brutal death on the cross (1 Pet 1:19), for “the forgiveness of sins” (Eph 1:7). The agony and suffering that He endured was unimaginable; His visage or His face “was so marred more than any man” (Isa 52:14).

However, His horrific pain was more than physical. Because He was made “to be sin for us, Who knew no sin” (2 Cor 5:21) – He was judged as if He was sin itself, and He was seemingly “forsaken” (Mk 15:34), by the Father! But He did it to tell us how much He loved us (Jer 31:3), even though we are all sinners (Rom 5:8). And whosoever will humbly acknowledge their sins (Rom 3:23), and repent before Him (Acts 20:21), shall have everlasting life (Jn 3:16)! After Jesus was buried, “He rose again the third day” (1 Cor 15:4).

If you have not yet trusted Him as your Lord and Saviour by faith (Rom 10:9), then you should do it now! Because all false religions and all idolatries will be abolished. Only in Christ are we made alive and are current possessors of “eternal life” (1 Jn 5:11). If the Lord does not return in our lifetime, then our physical life would end one day (Heb 9:27). But when He comes for His children at the rapture, we shall all “be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air” (1 Thes 4:17). Then death, which is the “last enemy that shall be destroyed” (1 Cor 15:26), would finally be abolished! God bless you!
