Learn To Be Content
Philippians 4:11 says, “Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.”

“To be content” means to be satisfied with what we already have and trusting that God shall continually “supply all our needs” (v. 19), according to His precious promises and abundant grace (Heb 4:16). Paul was a contented man. Even while imprisoned, he was praying and singing “praises unto God” (Acts 16:25). He did not fret or complain, even in the most difficult situations. He said, “I will glory of the things which concern mine infirmities” (2 Cor 11:30). There is nothing wrong in having ambitions to be the best in our lives; like being the CEO instead of an office worker; to achieve A’s instead of C’s; to write a book and not just an essay; to be able to shake the world with the gospel rather than being a mere church attendee.
All these aspirations are good as long as we are in line with the will of God (Rom 12:2), and we are always putting Him first and foremost in our lives (Mt 6:33)! Most people seek peace and serenity in this world. But as we study God’s word, we learn that His genuine peace “which passeth all understanding” (v. 7), is borne out of a real and personal relationship with our Lord Jesus (Gal 2:20). Trusting Him alone by faith (Rom 5:1), relieves us of all anxieties, worries, and fears (v. 6). Because we know that He has a plan and purpose for us (Rom 8:28).
When we focus on God’s goodness (Nah 1:7), and His faithfulness (Deut 7:9), then we can truly relax upon His marvelous grace (Isa 40:31), regardless of our circumstance! The overflowing resources that come from our Lord Jesus (Jn 4:14), enables us to face all the trials and troubles that come our way. And it becomes an opportunity to make Him known (1 Pet 5:10)! May we learn to “rejoice in the Lord always” (v. 4), and “be content.” Because true contentment comes from knowing Him deeply and loving Him completely! God bless you!
