Sin Is Missing The Mark

Leviticus 20:8 says, “And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.”

Our society may have legalized and regarded some sins to be acceptable (Isa 5:20), but God has never changed (Mal 3:6). Sin is still missing the mark of moral purity and falling short of God’s righteousness (Rom 3:23)! We all need to obey God (Isa 28:13), because we shall all give account of ourselves to Him one day (Rom 14:12). We believe in the dispensational view of interpreting the Bible.

For example, we are no longer setting up the tabernacle (Ex 40:2), or offering animal sacrifices (Lev 1:9), through a human priest (Lev 4:20). Jesus is now our High priest (Heb 4:14), Who paid the price for our sins (Rom 5:9). When we place our faith and trust in Him, He provides forgiveness by His grace (Eph 2:8). There are several sins mentioned in our passage that were punishable by death under the Mosaic law; such as cursing father and mother (v. 9). Many rebellious young people would be in grave danger today if not for God’s grace. But it is still sinful to curse our parents! Anyone who commits adultery “shall surely be put to death” (v. 10). Instead of condemning the woman taken in adultery, Jesus told her to “go, and sin no more” (Jn 8:11). Don’t even think of committing this sin (Mt 5:28).

But if you already have, then ask the Lord for forgiveness and don’t do it again (1 Jn 1:9). Homosexuality is another sin that was punishable by death (v. 13). It is clearly an abomination (Lev 18:22). Our society calls it an alternative lifestyle, but God never condones it (Rom 1:27)! Once again, forgiveness is available to the repentant heart (1 Cor 6:11). Just because many today are involved in such sins and have not fallen over dead doesn’t mean that God permits it. In fact, “the riches of His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering” (Rom 2:4), only proves to us His willingness to extend His mercy to all who are willing to repent! God bless you!
