The Flying Roll

Zechariah saw a “roll” that contains writings with curses against the evil-doers. It is “flying” because “the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth” (v. 3). The writings inside this roll will be “against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations” (Jer 36:2). The second coming of our Lord Jesus will be both sudden and unexpected (1 Thes 5:2); “as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth” (Lk 21:35). If you have not yet trusted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour alone by faith (Eph 2:8), then today is the day to prepare (2 Cor 6:2)!

Either you will be ready or not. Remember, life is like “a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away” (Jms 4:14). We don’t know “what a day may bring forth” (Prov 27:1). You can be ready today and anytime in the future by getting saved (Acts 16:31)! The roll’s dimensions (v. 2), is similar to that of “the porch before the temple of the house” that Solomon built for the Lord (1 Ki 6:3). It may imply that God’s judgment upon the wicked will proceed according to the rule of His sanctuary, which is “to the threshold of the house” (Eze 9:3), or in the rear of the porch! It will be swiftly administered (v. 4).

The roll also has a striking parallelism with the book that John saw which is “sealed with seven seals” (Rev 5:1). When Jesus opened the first seal (Rev 6:1), the judgments upon the earth was carried out by the four horsemen that parallels the ninth vision of Zechariah (Zech 6:1). All of these judgments imply that God shall cleanse the earth of all evil prior to the establishment of His millennial kingdom (Rev 20:4). We have the full assurance that God have already secured our ultimate victory through Christ (1 Cor 15:57). I read the last chapter (Rev 22:5), and it says we won! God bless you!
