The God Of The Valleys
1 Kings 20:28 says, “And there came a man of God, and spake unto the king of Israel, and said, Thus saith the LORD, Because the Syrians have said, The LORD is God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys, therefore will I deliver all this great multitude into thine hand, and ye shall know that I am the LORD.”

The Syrians made a terrible assumption concerning the God of Israel. They said that He was only the “God of the hills, but he is not God of the valleys.” But the Lord gave His people assurance of an absolute victory (v. 13)! The Syrians soon found out that God was greater than Who they thought He was, after they were defeated with a great slaughter (v. 21). Christians, let me remind you that our God is far greater than all the valleys that we may face in life (Ps 23:4).
Surely, it is much easier to serve the Lord when we are on the mountain top. However, when we enter into the valleys of discouragement, pain, and sufferings, we know that God makes “all things work together for good” (Rom 8:28). When we are broken by the trials of life, God is merely bringing us to a place where He can move in us and through us, just like the apostle Paul (2 Cor 12:10). God wants to use us in a very special way, but He will first put us in a position where we must be totally dependent on Him (Isa 40:31)!
He wants to show us that He is in complete control of every stage of our lives (Isa 41:10). Because “our faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God” (1 Cor 2:5). Satan wants to defeat us (1 Pet 5:8), but God is determined to prove that He can give us the victory in every circumstance that we face “through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:57). While the battle rages around us, God has already won the war (Rom 8:37), because He is the God of the valleys! God bless you!
