The Journey
Romans 15:23 says, “But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you;”

Paul was “in journeyings often” (2 Cor 11:26), traveling from place to place as a church planter. We can learn a lot of insights from Paul’s journeys that would help us when we travel through our Christian lives (1 Pet 2:11). The book of Acts gives us a detailed record of Paul’s missionary journeys, where he made some good plans under the guidance of the “Holy Ghost” (Acts 16:6). In our passage, Paul tells us that he has “no more place in these parts.” He’s not saying that all his work is done and there is no more place to go.
He is merely stating that he had completed one of his numerous assignments! In preaching the gospel (v. 20), Paul is known for his work of laying the foundation (1 Cor 3:10). When a group of believers are established in one area (Acts 9:31), he moves on to the next location. Then, he returns to check on them (Gal 1:17). He sets a great example of careful planning for all of us. Sadly, most people don’t even have any plans for their lives (Lk 14:28), or they make their own plans without consulting God (Prov 16:9)!
Some live from day to day with no sense of directions (Prov 16:25). But when we “trust in the Lord” (Prov 3:5), He promised to direct our paths. His words become a lamp unto our feet, and a light unto our path (Ps 119:105). Surely, the devil will always try to oppose anything that honors and glorifies the Lord (Mt 12:30). Other people may even be used by the enemy as pawns to hinder God’s work (Mal 3:5). At times, the circumstances of life may appear to stand contrary to our plans in following Him (Acts 16:23). May I encourage you, that no matter what problems life throws in our way, just keep on serving and continue living for Jesus. If you are obeying and following Him, then stick to the plan! God bless you!
