Total Dependence On Our Protector
Psalms 18:2 says, “The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.”

David wrote this Psalm to declare his love and total dependence upon God in the day that he was delivered from the hand of his enemies and king Saul (1 Sam 23:25). When we consider God’s amazing love (Jn 15:13), and all that He has done to save us (Rom 5:8); our hearts should also be filled with that same love for Him (1 Jn 4:19)! David trusted the Lord completely in his life. The same should be true for all of God’s children (Mt 22:37). When we have the right relationship with Him (Ps 19:14), we shall always prioritize His presence in our lives (Mt 6:33).
Then we can experience the “joy unspeakable” (1 Pet 1:8), “the peace of God” (Php 4:7), and His purpose (2 Tim 1:9), in our lives. David describes God as his “rock;” symbolizing His unchanging character (Mal 3:6), in a world that is filled with compromises and unstable minds (Eph 4:14). He says that God is his “fortress.” I am thankful that we can always run to Him for safe refuge (Ps 57:1), when the devil attacks us (1 Pet 5:8). God is David’s “deliverer” – when lost souls receive Jesus by faith (Acts 20:21), He redeems (Heb 9:12), and delivers them from the eternal condemnation of hell (Rom 6:23).
Recognizing the Lord as the Almighty God (Job 5:17), David finds the “strength” that he needs to face all his trials. He calls Him “my buckler” or shield, providing us with the armour “to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked” (Eph 6:16). He also calls God the “horn of salvation,” which pertains to His eternal and absolute security in our salvation (Jn 10:28-29). Finally, David used the term “high tower” in reference to God lifting up His humble children above all their battles and storms (Jms 4:10). Indeed, God’s wondrous love and protection for His children makes Him worthy to be praised! God bless you!
