We Are More Than Conquerors

Romans 8:37 says, “Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”

The phrase “we are more than conquerors” refers to all bible-believing Christians – “we” have surpassed victory and were carried away in a powerful victory! However, that is not what most believers feel all the time. Instead, we are often overwhelmed with the struggles and challenges of life (2 Cor 4:8). Paul uses this phrase in the present tense and active voice. He is saying that “we,” who have trusted Jesus as our Lord and Saviour by faith (Rom 5:1), will keep on winning a glorious victory in our lifetime.

Regardless of how things may look or the outcome of any given situation, we are still “more than conquerors,” because God is the One Who “giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:57). We must consistently pray (1 Thes 5:17), that we would accept by faith the promises of God concerning our daily “triumph in Christ” (2 Cor 2:14). Remember, God will get more glory from our lives if we would fully trust in Him during our times of trials (2 Cor 4:17), than He will if our lives are at ease. This was true in the life of Job (Job 13:15), and it can surely be true in us as well! We can be victorious not because of our own strength, but only “through Him that loved us.” We deserve the punishment in hell because of our sins (Rom 6:23).

But since God loved us “with an everlasting love” (Jer 31:3), there “is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus” (v. 1). And there is absolutely nothing that can “separate us from the love of God” (v. 39). Knowing these things shall give every child of God the assurance that even the pains, troubles, and sorrows of life (v. 35), can be convincing evidences of His great love for us, “which passeth knowledge” (Eph 3:19)! We “are more than conquerors” because God’s love is our guarantee that we can overcome all things that may come “against us” (v. 31)! God bless you!
