Who Will Comfort The Cruel
Nahum 3:7 says, “And it shall come to pass, that all they that look upon thee shall flee from thee, and say, Nineveh is laid waste: who will bemoan her? whence shall I seek comforters for thee?”

Nineveh was spared of God’s judgment when they repented after Jonah’s preaching (Jon 3:4). About 5 generations later, they returned to becoming a “bloody city” (v. 1). Since they were full of robbery and murder within, God will bring upon them robbery and murder from without (v. 3)! This truth is often neglected in today’s modern thinking (Rom 12:2). But God said that “vengeance is mine” (Rom 12:19) – He will also repay for what we do as a nation and as individuals.
Just like the principle of sowing and reaping (Gal 6:7), God shall either reward or punish the consequences of what we sow through our choices and actions, as He sees everything (Prov 15:3). God will judge a nation for its wickedness upon its people; He will also repay what we have done to others. Because Jesus said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye have done it unto Me” (Mt 25:40)! If we have been unkind and showed no compassion to others, God can do the same toward us.
If we have refused to be generous, then God will not be generous with us (Prov 19:17). If we have not forgiven others, then God will not forgive us also (Mt 6:15). God’s judgment is always perfect (Mic 6:8), and it is based on His unfailing love and righteousness (Ps 9:8)! Nahum proclaims that no one will “bemoan” or grieve when Nineveh falls, because of its cruelty; and no one will comfort them. Most people don’t care for those evil criminals who have done so much violence. It is also sad when children don’t care about what happens to their parents who lived so selfishly and harshly against them. The children won’t even grieve or attend their funeral. May God’s judgment convict us to live according to His will (Eph 2:10), by showing more love, grace, and compassion! God bless you!
