Bidding Someone God Speed
2 John 1:11 says, “For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.”

John was warning “the elect lady and her children” (v. 1), about those “deceivers” (v. 7), who “transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ” (v. 9). They must neither receive him into their house nor “bid him God speed” (v. 10). The phrase “God speed” is a common expression during those days to greet or wish someone goodwill for God’s presence in their journey. By wishing a false teacher “God speed,” they are implying a sense of endorsement towards their opposition to the Lord’s doctrine. They are thereby identifying or being partakers “of his evil deeds!” John loves the truth and those who are “walking in truth” (v. 4). He wants to provide protection by teaching them how to “earnestly contend for the faith” (Jude 1:3).
Even today, we are confronted with many who come “in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves” (Mt 7:15). In our modern age of social media and the Internet, the call for spiritual discernment between “good and evil” (Heb 5:14), is more crucial than ever! For example, YouTube and Tik Tok are filled with videos of false teachers (2 Tim 2:18); which even contain numerous AI generated scenes whose underlying messages clearly deviate from biblical truth! As bible-believing Christians, we should never approve any teachings that contradict scripture; by either following them or even subscribing to their channels. We are to hold fast “the faithful word” (Titus 1:9), which we have been taught! Because these false preachers will eventually “bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord” (2 Pet 2:1).
Therefore, we must keep the faith until the end (2 Tim 4:7); by standing “fast in the faith” (1 Cor 16:13), and never quit! Every time we affirm a false message that is in conflict with our King James Bible, whether it is through words of encouragement or financial support, then we are compromising our witness and integrity (2 Tim 1:8). Bidding someone “God speed” is a conscious choice. Let’s make sure to use it wisely! God bless you!
