But After This Appointment
Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”

When our physical lives end in this world (Ps 104:29), our souls shall continue to live; either in Heaven (Col 1:5), if you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour by faith (Gal 3:26), or in hell for “them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ” (2 Thes 1:8). Because after death is “the judgment!” Every human being that ever lived must stand before God, Who has “committed all judgment unto the Son” (Jn 5:22). After death, the saved souls shall immediately go to Heaven (2 Cor 5:8), and wait for “the judgment seat of Christ” (Rom 14:10), so we can give a personal account of ourselves to Him according to what we have done while we are still alive (2 Cor 5:10).
But the unsaved shall undergo the torments of hell (Lk 16:23), while awaiting the Lord Jesus’ judgment at the “great white throne” (Rev 20:11). This would be the saddest and most miserable event in the history of mankind; when all lost souls will be “cast into the lake of fire” (Rev 20:14), to suffer the “everlasting punishment” (Mt 25:46), for their rejection of God’s salvation! The word “appointed” means that a future meeting has been arranged for us by someone – it has a specific date, time, and place.
This is an appointment that we don’t want to attend if we have any say in the matter. We would probably do everything we can to put it off as long as possible. However, this one-time appointment called “death” can neither be cancelled nor re-scheduled! When we die, we are separated (2 Pet 1:14), from the people we love and from this world with all its blessings and sorrows. Do you know for sure where your soul will go when you die? As God’s children, we are 100% sure (1 Jn 5:13), that our appointed place will be in Heaven (Jn 14:3); and we shall be ready (1 Jn 2:28), when that appointed time comes! God bless you all!
