Cast Your Anchors Upon Jesus
Acts 27:29 says, “Then fearing lest we should have fallen upon rocks, they cast four anchors out of the stern, and wished for the day.”

When Paul and other prisoners were being taken by ship towards Italy (v. 1), they encountered “a tempestuous wind” (v. 14). Not seeing the sun nor stars in many days, they began to lose “all hope” (v. 20). Many people today experience discouragement and depression when they go through some intense storms of life (Jms 1:2). They lose any hope for the future when all they see is darkness and gloominess (Joel 2:2). Those times of trials could either drive them to seek the Lord or away from Him (Prov 14:12).
But as God’s children, the trials that we encounter in life are simply God’s way of strengthening us (2 Cor 12:9); “knowing that tribulation worketh patience” (Rom 5:3). For example, Job “sinned not, nor charged God foolishly” (Job 1:22), after undergoing one of the greatest tragedies in life! When the storms of life are raging, we could either grow stronger in the Lord (Jms 1:3), or crash upon the rocks of doubts and bitterness (Jms 1:8). We must learn “to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man” (Ps 118:8)! In order to secure the ship, “they cast four anchors out of the stern.” Everyone was terrified except for Paul (v. 31), because his soul was anchored higher “both sure and stedfast” (Heb 6:19).
He has full confidence on God’s precious promises (Rom 4:21); that He shall deliver “him out of them all” (Ps 34:19). God was working out His plan for Paul (v. 24), and He is doing the same for all of us today! He is our rock, and our fortress, and our “deliverer” (Ps 18:2), until all our calamities pass away (Ps 57:1). Just as Paul and all the passengers landed safely to the shore (v. 44), “God is able” (2 Cor 9:8), to work all things “together for good” (Rom 8:28). If you are going through some rough storms today, then you need to cast your anchors upon Jesus, our solid Rock! God bless you!
