Esther's Character Of Purity

Melito Barrera • September 27, 2025

Esther 2:2 says, “Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king.”

Esther is the Persian name for “Hadassah,” the cousin of Mordecai (v. 7). When the Persian king Ahasuerus ordered a search party for a new queen (v. 1), he noticed Esther right away (v. 9), and made her queen (v. 17)! God’s divine hand allowed Esther to be placed in that important role for the preservation of the Jews. She won the grace and favor of the king because of her godly character. She was also considered because she was a “fair young virgin.”

There is a very deceiving trend today that encourages young people to lose their virginity during their teen years (Col 2:8), as if it is a popular thing to do. Immorality and impurity (Gal 5:19), are being widely promoted through the social media and the Internet (1 Cor 15:33), which result in promiscuity (Heb 13:4). On the contrary, God’s word teaches us the importance of remaining pure both spiritually (Prov 4:23), and physically (1 Cor 6:19). And that sexual intimacy is solely reserved for married couples (1 Cor 7:4). My wife and I waited until our wedding day for our first kiss! Sadly, many parents today are so busy working and have no time to raise or guide their children.

They live as they please without any regard to their God-given roles as a father (Ps 103:13), and a mother (Prov 31:28). It doesn’t have to be this way parents. Now is the “high time to awake” (Rom 13:11)! Older and more mature bible-believing Christians must also take the lead (Titus 2:2-3), in setting both godly examples (1 Thes 1:7), and godly counsels (Prov 11:14), to our young people. We must constantly pray for them to seek the Lord wholeheartedly (2 Thes 5:17), and show them how God can guide their decisions by trusting in Him (Prov 3:5). This would help strengthen their resolve to “stand fast in the Lord” (Php 4:1), in a world that often promotes values that are contrary to our Biblical standards! God bless you!
