God Is Good All The Time
Joel 1:2 says, “Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers?”

Joel asked the Jews if they have ever seen any kind of calamity that is so grievous in their days. No such plague of locust had been seen since they were in bondage in Egypt (Ex 10:14). God used a great horde of devastating insects (v. 4), upon their vegetation to judge them. The damage was so severe that the nation was brought to ruin (v. 7). Joel tells them that the root cause of their problem is their sin and God wants them to repent (Joel 2:12)!
Such terrible events teach us that God is always in control of everything (Isa 45:7); whatsoever He pleases (Ps 135:6). We may not always fully understand the circumstances around us. But we serve the all-knowing (1 Jn 3:20), and all-powerful God (Ps 147:5), Who has a plan for our lives (Jer 29:11); to lovingly and graciously guide us every step of the way (Ps 37:23).
If you have trusted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour by faith (Eph 2:8), God can surely do certain things He wants in our lives, because He calls us “according to His purpose” (Rom 8:28). That’s why we must “walk by faith, not by sight” (2 Cor 5:7). Yes, it’s so easy to say that when things are going well – when we have a good health, financial stability, and when everything seems favorable to us (Lk 12:19). However, when things go south or become worse, when the rug is pulled from under our feet, and when the storms of life become unbearable; it is then that we must exercise our faith (Heb 11:6), because our faith is being tested (Jms 1:3). These are times when we must look up and praise God for He has “done whatsoever He hath pleased” (Ps 115:3). Therefore, whether we are in the valley or on the mountaintop of life, we can always rejoice and say that God is good all the time! God bless you!
