The Truth Shall Make You Free

John 8:32 says, “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

Jesus was speaking to a group of people who thought that since they were part of “Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man” (v. 33). However, the Lord clearly stated that “whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin” (v. 34). Paul conveyed the same message (Rom 6:16). Jesus wants everyone to know “the truth,” that lost sinners are still in bondage to sin; and they are not truly free (v. 35). Since Jesus “is the Son of God” (Jn 1:34), He alone has the power to make us “free indeed” (v. 36), from that spiritual bondage!

A person can be physically incarcerated but still be free in Jesus. People can be living in a godless or pagan society and still be free in Jesus, if they would trust Him alone as their Lord and Saviour by faith (Rom 10:9). He is the source of our spiritual freedom because He is “the truth” (Jn 14:6). Sadly, many today are being deceived by Satan, who is the father of lies (Jn 8:44). He would always try to imitate God by using “false teachers” (2 Pet 2:1), and “many antichrists” (1 Jn 2:18), as his pawns to divert people away from the truth! But the truth about Jesus can be seen all around us (Ps 19:1), so that lost sinners “are without excuse” (Rom 1:20).

No matter how convincing it may appear, even through the use of modern technologies like AI or the social media; God’s truth will always prevail when His light (v. 12), shines through the evil “works of darkness” (Rom 13:12). The truth about Jesus as “the Saviour of the world” (Jn 4:42), is mainly found in the pages of the Bible (Jn 5:39), and the gospel message (Rom 4:25); that He has “risen from the dead” (Mt 28:7). When lost sinners come humbly before Him, “the Spirit of truth” (Jn 16:13), opens their eyes and guides them to “the True Light” (Jn 1:9). Only Jesus is the source of our true freedom! God bless you!
