God's law

Hosea 6:5 says, “Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets; I have slain them by the words of my mouth: and thy judgments are as the light that goeth forth.”

The prophet Hosea was to proclaim a message of judgment to God’s disobedient people because they have forgotten the law of God (Hosea 4:5). “God is love” (1 Jn 4:8), and righteous (Rom 1:17); “He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness” (Joel 2:13). However, He also hates “evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way” (Prov 8:13). He shall “execute judgment upon all” (Jude 1:15)! Sadly, many preachers today have lost their fire (Ps 104:4). They got too busy organizing their programs just to promote their churches; but their fire has been extinguished.

Remember, “God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God” (Deut 4:24). When God commanded us to have “have no other gods” (Ex 20:3), before Him; it does not mean that God recognizes any other deities beside Him. “For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth” (1 Cor 8:5). “But the Lord is the true God, He is the living God, and an everlasting king” (Jer 10:10). He is alone in His position, and His glory as God (Ps 57:5)! The modern-day preachers often promote themselves with their congregation through a health and wealth prosperity gospel, and by bringing attention to themselves rather than giving glory to God (1 Cor 10:31). He abhors such actions when only the preacher’s popularity is being built up (Amos 5:10).

Preachers need to be reminded that “we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord” (2 Cor 4:5)! We ought to preach with the Spirit’s power (Zec 4:6), against sin and unholiness as we lift up God’s mercy to the repentant (2 Pet 3:9). We should always “trust in the Lord” (Prov 3:5), and avoid “the fear of man” (Prov 29:25). Jesus is coming again (Rev 1:7). We need to pray for more preachers who would boldly “preach the word” (2 Tim 4:2), while showing God’s grace, love and compassion! God bless you!
