Jesus Is Our Peace
Ephesians 2:14 says, “For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;”
When Isaiah prophesied about the coming Messiah, he called Him, “The Prince of Peace” (Isa 9:6). Paul tells us that we “are made nigh by the blood of Christ” (v. 13), because “He is our peace.” The Gentiles were under the dominion of the flesh (v. 11), while the Jews have no hope “and without God in the world” (v. 12). Jesus is the author and ground of peace for both Jews and Gentiles! The Jews could never earn real peace through their rituals and by keeping the law (Gal 3:10). And the Gentiles had no way of approaching “the living and true God” (1 Thes 1:9), with their own philosophies and traditions (Col 2:8).
Regardless of what they do, both Jews and Gentiles “are all under sin” (Rom 3:9). Jesus accomplished what religion and “what the law could not do” (Rom 8:3). He “made peace through the blood of His cross” (Col 1:20), and “hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us” when He died (Mt 27:51), and “rose from the dead” (Acts 10:41). The wall that symbolized the social division between the Jews and Gentiles is now broken! There “is neither Jew nor Greek” (Gal 3:28). Sadly, that old wall still exists (Gal 3:22), for many people who have never received Jesus as their Lord and Saviour by faith (Gal 2:16).
He is the only way (Jn 14:6), Who can give the genuine “peace with God” (Rom 5:1), “which passeth all understanding” (Php 4:7)! For those of us who are saved, we know for sure that the walls of division have already been torn down forever! When we are in Christ “old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new” (2 Cor 5:17). All our differences disappear because they are under “the blood of Jesus” (1 Jn 1:7). There is no Jew and there is no Gentile. There is only the true believer in Christ, who has been saved by His amazing grace! God bless you!
