Josiah's Humble Obedience
2 Kings 22:2 says, “And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, and walked in all the way of David his father, and turned not aside to the right hand or to the left.”

Josiah reigned when he was only 8 years old (v. 1). He “did that which was right in the sight of the Lord,” and followed the ways of David his father. Young people should also follow the examples of their godly leaders (1 Pet 5:5); such as their godly parents (Eph 6:1), youth leader, and their pastor (1 Cor 11:1). They should never give in to peer pressure (Prov 13:20), and worldly examples! When Josiah was 26 years old (v. 3), he directed “Hilkiah the high priest” (v. 4), “to repair the breaches” (v. 5), of God’s house. Young people who are in their 20’s and 30’s, must also understand that church is not just a place to socialize or attend programs.
But they are also expected to “serve the Lord with gladness” (Ps 100:2). They can fill in the gaps and breaches that children and older folks are unable to do! As you “grow in grace” (2 Pet 3:18), you transition from being a recipient to a participant (Jn 13:14), and from being a spectator to a team player (Rom 12:10). But make sure to associate yourselves with faithful servants (1 Thes 1:7), who love the Lord and His church (Titus 3:15). We are called to strive “together for the faith of the gospel” (Php 1:27).
We thrive when we join a supportive and loving church family (Gal 6:2). By actively involving ourselves with fellow believers (Heb 10:25), we create an environment of trust, encouragement, and cooperation (1 Cor 12:12). Josiah “rent his clothes” (v. 11), after Shaphan the scribe read the book of the law (v. 8). It was an expression of repentance and humility (1 Sam 4:12). Whenever we hear God’s word preached, we ought to have a tender heart so we can humbly respond to what He is personally saying to us (Ps 139:6). Then follow through by obeying it! God bless you!
