Like The Sweetness Of An Apple
Song of Solomon 2:3 says, “As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.

Solomon’s “song of songs” (Song 1:1), is a book that expresses a spiritual symbol of God’s special relationship with Israel. The deep love between the bride and her groom also matches the love of Christ for His bride, the church (Eph 5:25), that comprises all true believers in Him (1 Tim 3:15). In our verse, the bride compared her beloved to “an apple tree” which is distinct among the other trees in the wood, because of the sweetness of its fruit. The source of our sweetness comes only from God’s word, because it is “sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb” (Ps 19:10) – it brings comfort to our lives “with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Pet 1:8)!
Most bible-believing Christians may not realize the importance of manifesting the sweetness of Jesus in our lives, especially when we interact with others (2 Cor 2:15). It is like “an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones” (Prov 16:24). It may refer to our kind words that “minister grace unto the hearers” (Eph 4:29), our thoughtfulness towards others (Php 2:3), or our genuine love and compassion for others (Col 3:12). Real compassion (Jude 1:22), is not just observing or showing pity to those who are in need.
But is demonstrated through our active participation; by comforting “them which are in any trouble” (2 Cor 1:4), by offering our help, guidance, or simply a listening ear! Such sweet acts of kindness and generosity (Prov 11:17), can leave a long-lasting impression upon the recipients’ hearts (Gal 6:9). Whether these actions are small or big, they are sure to convey a Christ-like attitude through our love and concern for others (Jn 14:21). When we have tasted and seen “that the Lord is good” (Prov 34:8), we can certainly influence others by sharing it to them. They would want to eat it also “and be satisfied” (Ps 22:26)! God bless you!
