The Devil Wants To Destroy Our Foundations
1 Peter 5:8 says, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:”

As bible-believing Christians, we need to be “sober” or be in control of one's mind and life (2 Cor 10:5), which results in obedience to God in all things (1 Pet 1:14). We also need to be “vigilant" or be watchful and careful (Eph 5:15). Because we have a powerful “adversary the devil,” who seeks to devour us! He is like a thief who comes “to destroy” (Jn 10:10). When iniquity abounds in an ungodly nation (Ps 43:1), he would even persecute and destroy God’s messengers (Jer 2:30). Satan uses his pawns such as some evil politicians of our day with their liberal agendas to attack and destroy the godly foundations upon which our nation was built.
Many have already forgotten or don’t even know that the Pilgrims who made the treacherous journey across the Atlantic aboard the Mayflower, seeking religious freedom, drafted the Mayflower Compact and signed it on November 20, 1620. It clearly reflected their faith in God by desiring to spread Christianity in their new homeland. They acknowledged the fundamental truth that it was the biblical principles “ordained of God” (Rom 13:1), which are behind the laws that provide order to preserve society (1 Cor 14:33) – not the human laws themselves! When Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence, he had much influence from the godly leaders of his time.
Both the concept behind it and the words he expressed were rooted in the Bible. Signed on July 4, 1776 by 56 delegates to the second Continental Congress, it is considered as the foundation of America’s system of government. This is why the devil wants to destroy our nation’s godly foundations. And if the foundations are faulty, then it will surely fall (Mt 7:26)! America is in trouble because most leaders are not fixing the root cause of our problems, which are foundational. Christians, let’s not wait until our biblical foundations are destroyed (Ps 11:3). We need to remain vigilant and stand strong in the faith! God bless you!
