The Doctrine Of Christ
2 John 1:9 says, “Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.”

John gives his salutation to “the elect lady and her children” (v. 1). He expresses his joy in their faith and love for the Lord by “walking in truth” (v. 4). He then warns them about the many deceivers “who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh” (v. 7). Such deceivers cannot comprehend the truth that Jesus can be both God and man. However, when God sent “His only begotten Son” (Jn 3:16), Jesus Christ was “in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh” (Rom 8:3). This truth is very important because it reveals the sinless humanity of our Saviour.
Even though He was in the flesh (Jn 1:14), through the virgin birth (Isa 7:14), He was incapable of sinning (Heb 4:15)! When the devil tempted Him in the wilderness (Mt 4:1), He was tempted with “all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life” (1 Jn 2:16); yet He was able to resist every temptation and defeated sin while in the flesh! This allowed Jesus to become our perfect sacrifice so we can receive the atonement for our sins (Rom 5:11).
He has to be “a lamb without blemish and without spot:” (1 Pet 1:19), because He is “the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world” (Jn 1:29). And He is “a merciful and faithful high priest” (Heb 2:17), Who understands everything we could possibly experience but “Who did no sin” (1 Pet 2:22). He became a man in order to mediate “between God and men” (1 Tim 2:5). This is “the doctrine of Christ” – Jesus is God Himself (Jn 1:1); He is the only “way, the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6). After trusting Him as our Lord and only Saviour by faith (Gal 3:26), then we must abide in His doctrine! God bless you!
