Don't Be Like Sheba
2 Samuel 20:2 says, “So every man of Israel went up from after David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.”

Although not much is known about Sheba from the tribe of Benjamin, he must have been a very influential person with a goal of inciting rebellion and overthrowing king David. Thus, the ten tribes “followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king.” He was described as “a man of Belial” (v. 1); a phrase referring to a wicked rebel. Being from the same tribe, he was also a supporter of the late king Saul, who despised David! However, a wise woman settled the matter with Joab, David’s commander (2 Sam 3:23), and had Sheba killed (v. 22)!
Sheba is a picture of those who are the enemies of our Lord Jesus (Ps 68:21). In fact, anyone who is not in a real and personal relationship with Jesus, by receiving Him as Lord and Saviour by faith (Eph 2:8), are all His “enemies” (Rom 5:10). “Because the carnal mind is enmity against God” (Rom 8:7). When Jesus, Who is “called Faithful and True” (Rev 19:11), shall come again, all His enemies shall find themselves in the same position as Sheba. They will be shut out of “the gates into the city” (Rev 22:14), and will be “cast into the lake of fire” (Rev 20:15).
If you die lost because you rejected God’s salvation through Jesus Christ alone (Jn 14:6), then you will spend eternity in hell (2 Thes 1:8), without the light of God’s glory in Heaven (Rev 21:23)! Don’t be caught off guard (2 Pet 3:10). You can be ready today and be absolutely sure that Heaven will be your home when you die; if you would trust Jesus as the One Who shed His blood for the forgiveness of your sins (Col 1:14). Don’t be like Sheba, who was a rebel and died lost forever. Jesus is inviting you to come (Mt 11:28), so you can make things right with Him! God bless you!
