The Root Of All Evil
1 Timothy 6:10 say, “For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”

Money itself is not evil; “the love of money is the root of all evil!” This root started with Satan’s pride when his “heart is lifted up because of his riches” (Eze 28:5), and he desired to “be like the most High” (Isa 14:14). This evil will be in full fruition during the Tribulation period when the merchants of the world are made rich by “Mystery Babylon” (Rev 17:5). This root is called “covetousness” (Lk 12:15); which is a desire of something that is not our own or forbidden (Deut 5:21). The Pharisees, “who were covetous” (Lk 16:14), derided or laughed at Jesus when He preached against serving two masters; God and the riches of this world.
After the rich young ruler heard Jesus say that he should follow Him, “went away grieved: for he had great possessions” (Mk 10:22). The love of money was at the root of Ananias and Sapphira’s decision to keep “back part of the price” (Acts 5:2), of the possession that they sold, by bringing only a portion to the apostles. This also describes the characteristics of the last days (2 Tim 3:2). Therefore, we are to “mortify” (Col 3:5), or keep such evil desires under strict subjection! When we covet riches and worldly things, we will err “concerning the faith” (v. 21); we are telling God that we don’t trust Him to supply all our need (Php 4:19).
We must understand that anything pertaining to God’s business always runs on faith and not dependent upon our own finances and programs (Prov 21:1). Because He is in charge of everything (Ps 73:26)! God wants us to live a simple and humble life (Prov 13:7), just like Jesus when He was here (Lk 9:58). He has given us the abundance of His grace (Rom 5:17). We should never trust in worldly riches (Prov 11:28), but we should just learn to be “content” (v. 8)! God bless you!
