The Trying Of Your Faith
James 1:3 says, “Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”

There are numerous trials and troubles that we face in life which often leave us perplexed. But scriptures clearly teach that they are meant to build up our faith if we place our total dependence upon God. The physical pain and suffering that we experience will lead to our spiritual growth (Rom 5:3). Since God is the Potter and we are the clay (Isa 64:8), He will often use the storms of life to break us so He can mold us into the person that He intends for us; a “vessel unto honour” (Rom 9:21)! As God’s children, we must anticipate that our faith is not only going to be tried; but it must be tried!
When David fell into temptation by committing adultery with Bathsheba (2 Sam 11:4), it was like falling unexpectedly into a “horrible pit” (Ps 40:2). He was caught unprepared because he let his guards down by relaxing in his house instead of going out into battle (2 Sam 11:1). We must “think it not strange concerning the fiery trial” (1 Pet 4:12), which is to try us. We will all go through many trials that are common among Christians (1 Cor 10:13). They are not necessarily due to our weak faith, but they will actually reveal the weak areas of our faith (2 Cor 12:10).
Although our flesh and our hearts may fail, God is the strength of our hearts (Ps 73:26). Because “to them that have no might He increaseth strength” (Isa 40:29). These trials will prove us so that our faith can be strengthened! We may even “fall into divers temptations” (v. 2), that will come in all kinds of ways and in different waves! God allows us to undergo trials so we can learn to love and appreciate the victories we have “through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 15:57). In the midst of our trials, we can see God’s presence and grace, along with the prayers of other believers (Gal 6:2); when we stay grounded in His words and prayers (Col 2:7)! God bless you!
