They Hate Him That Rebuke
Amos 5:10 says, “They hate him that rebuketh in the gate, and they abhor him that speaketh uprightly.”

During the time of Amos, the “house of Israel” (v. 1), “hate him” because he was telling the truth about their sins and God’s judgment to come (v. 7). The public often reacts in a negative way whenever a person stands for the truth (1 Cor 16:13), and proclaims it! Jesus warned His disciples that the world would hate them (Jn 15:18). Today, it still hates bible-believing Christians who love Jesus (1 Jn 3:13). Because there is a multitude of people that has a “reprobate mind” (Rom 1:28). They don’t want God in their lives (Prov 28:5).
Therefore, God gives them over to the power of a depraved or spiritually wicked mind. When that happens, they are absolutely capable of any sin imaginable! People become “fools” (Rom 1:22), when they stop glorifying God and thanking Him (2 Tim 3:2). They turn to all sorts of worldly teachings and philosophies (Col 2:8); such as evolution, humanism, communism, ecumenism, etc. Some resort to violence against godly men who preach the truth (2 Tim 4:2). Because they are full of envy, haters of God, and “inventors of evil things” (Rom 1:30).
Instead of answering to God as their authority, they mock Him and “walk after their own ungodly lusts” (Jude 1:18). Sadly, there is a multitude of people who “not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them” (Rom 1:32). When violence and harm are done against a person or a church that is preaching the truth, there is always an increase of social media posts applauding such ungodly acts (Isa 5:20)! It all goes back to the time when Cain was so angry because God would not accept his offering (Gen 4:5). After speaking to his brother Abel and learning about God’s required offering, Cain murdered Abel! Disobedient people often resort to lies, malice, and even violence (1 Tim 4:2), when they could not think of anything else to answer a godly person (Mt 22:46). But they will ultimately answer to God one day! God bless you!
