When God Is Against You
Nahum 2:13 says, “Behold, I am against thee, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions: and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.”

The Assyrian capital city of Nineveh was spared of God’s judgment after they repented upon hearing Jonah’s reluctant preaching (Jon 3:4). About 150 years later, they turned back to their wicked ways (Nah 3:1). God is “against” them, and the prophet Nahum warns them of His impending judgment. This is probably one of the most chilling words in the Bible – to hear that “the Lord of hosts” and the all-powerful God (Ps 147:5), is against you. It is like hearing our Lord Jesus say to the lost souls, “I never knew you: depart from me” (Mt 7:23)!
I would rather be on “the Lord’s side” (Ex 32:26). Because, “if God be for us, who can be against us?” (Rom 8:31). Although Nineveh has an abundant supply of “chariots” and “young lions,” signifying their military strength; God shall annihilate Nineveh by reducing her into a heap of rubbish! Nahum prophesied that their defeat would take place when the “gates of the rivers shall be opened, and the palace shall be dissolved” (v. 6). His message of judgment became a reality when the Medes destroyed Nineveh in 612 B.C.
Most people don’t want to hear about the judgment of God as it pertains to their sins (Rev 20:12). Their pride doesn’t want to admit accountability (Prov 16:18). They even think that a just and holy God (Acts 3:14), would never judge anyone to a terrible place called hell (Mk 9:44). However, “every one of us shall give account of himself to God” (Rom 14:12). Sinful man often executes judgment out of hatred (Prov 26:26), but God executes His judgment out of His love (Deut 32:4). If a lost or an unsaved person dies, then they would be “cast into the lake of fire” (Rev 20:15). There will be no leniency, no appeals, and no pardons! God bless you!
