Thanking God For His Provisions
Numbers 31:38 says, “And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the LORD'S tribute was threescore and twelve.”

This chapter tells us how the Israelites won the battle “against the Midianites” (v. 3). They divided the spoils that were taken; one half to the soldiers, the other to the congregation, and a “tribute” or a portion to the Lord out of each (v. 28). This was a way for them to express their gratitude to God, Who has given them great victory through His amazing grace (Jn 1:16), and great power (2 Chr 20;17). May this serve as a reminder for us to also allocate the portion of His blessings back to His local church through our tithes (Mal 3:10), as He has prospered us (1 Cor 16:2)!
God gave Israel the responsibility to be stewards of His gifts by orderly assigning their share of the bounty after the battle (v. 30). We must also acknowledge our role of managing what God entrusted us as faithful stewards (1 Cor 4:2), and cheerful givers (2 Cor 9:7). Sadly, we live in a society wherein selfish needs (1 Jn 2:15), and material gain (1 Tim 6:10), are prioritized over God (Mt 6:33). Bible-believing Christians should be mindful of giving Him the glory in everything we do (1 Cor 10:31), by using our gifts and talents (Rom 12:6).
But more importantly, may we always “give thanks unto the Lord, for He is good” (Ps 107:1)! As we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, may we remember to “call upon His name, make known His deeds among the people” (1 Chr 16:8). Especially what our Lord Jesus has done for us (1 Pet 2:24); His free gift of salvation through His love, mercy, and grace (Eph 2:8). May we “shine as lights” (Php 2:15), to reflect God’s kindness and compassion in a world that desperately needs it. By “giving thanks always for all things unto God” (Eph 5:20), it helps us to be in harmony with His will (1 Thes 5:18). Thus, reminding us of His abundant goodness (2 Cor 9:8) and unfailing provisions (Php 4:19). Have a God blessed Thanksgiving celebration!
